Barton Creek Cave Tour

Step into the past—by canoe. The Barton Creek Cave Tour is one of the most unique cave experiences in Belize, offering a tranquil yet fascinating journey into a sacred Maya site once used for ceremonies, offerings, and burials. Located in the Cayo District, about 45 minutes from Villa Massis, Barton Creek is a part of the Mountain Pine Ridge foothills and is accessible only by water.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive through farmland and Mennonite communities. Once at the site, you’ll hop into a canoe and gently paddle with your guide into the cave’s cool, dark entrance. Equipped with high-powered lights, you’ll glide over the still, green waters as your guide points out ancient pottery shards, calcified skeletal remains, and massive stalactites dripping from the cave’s high ceilings.

The journey takes you over a kilometer into the mountain, revealing chambers once used for spiritual rituals and sacrificial offerings. It’s a peaceful, haunting, and awe-inspiring experience—perfect for history lovers, photographers, and curious explorers.
